Johnny Gallagher (Live From Home – NIVA Benefit)
March 6 @ 8:00 pm - March 8 @ 9:00 pm
Delaware’s own Johnny Gallagher started acting at Wilmington Drama League and Delaware Children’s Theatre and played in local bands such as Old Springs Pike (appearing in Arden in 2007). Moving to New York as a teen, he quickly became a renowned actor and is known for originating the role of Moritz Stiefel in Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater’s rock musical Spring Awakening, which earned him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He also originated the role of Johnny in Green Day’s American Idiot, Lee in the 2011 Broadway production of Jerusalem, and Edmund in the 2016 Broadway revival of Long Day’s Journey Into Night. His film and TV career includes Jim Harper in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge, Westworld, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. His solo LP “Six Day Hurricane” was released in 2016. Prior to the Pandemic, Johnny was sharing new songs on his popular twitter account @JohnGallagherJr and touring with artists including Aaron Lee Tasjan.
We are excited to welcome Johnny back to Delaware in a “Live from Home” appearance while on location filming a new project. 100% of ticket sales from this stream will go to the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) Emergency Fund. Donate directly here.
Johnny says: “I’m aiming to reach into my grab bag of original songs and pull out a ragtag selection ranging from tunes I wrote this year to some I wrote when I was still a teenager living right down the street from the Arden Gild. That plus a few cover songs and stories should make for a fun and soul searching night.”
